Great movies you may not have heard of

#1: Fido

A heartwarming story about a boy and his dog zombie.

It’s the present day and we’ve already had the zombie apocalypse. Since then Zomcom have come up with the zombie collar. When attached, they lose their hunger for all things brain and flesh related and can be put to good use; walking dogs, delivering papers, school monitors, etc. Little Timmy Robinson becomes the proudest boy on the block when he becomes the owner of a 6-foot tall rotting zombie whom he names Fido. But when Fido accidentally eats the next-door neighbour, Timmy must do all he can to protect his new best friend.

Fido seems to take the concept of the very end of Shaun of the Dead and runs with it. If I had to do the obligatory ‘cross between’ I’d say Pleasantville and Dawn of the Dead. It’s very dark and very funny. Not laugh your head off funny as it’s just too dark, but the whole setting and story is comfortably entertaining that you can sit back and enjoy it rather than the uncomfortable squirming normally associated with people eating other people.

It’s a Canadian movie but they sound just like the Yanks to us so it makes no difference. It stars Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity from Matrix looking incredibly MILF), Dylan Baker (Dr. Conners from Spidey movies) and our own unrecognisable Billy Connolly as Fido.

It’s the first film that actually made me care for a zombie.

p.s. I gave Superman 64 a quick go last night just to see if the recorder would work. If I can a mic working on the same thing then I can do a video commentary. I’m sure that will be more fun that having to bloody READ everything. You can just sit and watch the flashing pictures and listen to the pretty noises.
