More like 10 shitloads…
Played Gears of War II last night. It’s region free so if you ever want a game cheap it’s always worth looking at www.play-asia.com. Occasionally cheaper than buying Region 2 from Amazon and whatnot and a lot of times it’s out in the US first.
What’s the Bender soundalike protagonist been up to while we’ve been away? Well he’s still fighting the good fight. Nice little opening intro sets the scene and we’re still fighting the grubs, but slowly pushing the human race to extinction (That would be a ‘pyrrhic victory’, when you’ve won but you’ve still lost, fact fans). So now we take the fight to them. And thus we set the scene for the sequel.
And it’s pretty much more of the same. It’s been slightly tweaked and refined, you can now slip between hiding points that aren’t necessarily on a level with each other, but so far that’s the only extra thing I’ve seen.
Nothing really needs setting so up we just dive straight into the middle of the action and it immediately feels like a more cohesive storyline. One section nicely blends into the other and in my opinion this certainly feels a lot more exciting. They seem to have also concentrated on splitting up the running along fighting parts with other massive vehicle sections, or shoot the falling bombs, or venture through the pitch black tunnel. But that’s always something this series excelled in doing in the first place. One thing about it, it was certainly never boring. We’ve got new nasties including annoying little skuttering bugs with bombs attached to them and big massive 100ft fuckers with rocket pack strapped to their back.
The graphics are the same high quality as the first and from what i’ve heard the game is considerably longer.
So i guess the bottom line is, if you liked the first one blah blah blah. There’s not much else i can say without spoiling anything and to be honest i only really played a couple of hours of it, then i watched Prison Break which had a very predictable ending, was a bit of a swizz really.

ive just won £250 on a scratchcard!! going to get a ps3 and some blu ray discs later this morning.

You’d be better getting, um, anything else. A year after its release, the PS3 still hasn’t got that defining game that makes it a must-have console. Littlebigplanet is delayed, Motorstorm is, essentially, just another racing game, albeit a pretty one.
God of War III; the only thing that would kick arse and that’s not out until 2010.
Even the Wii had Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy within a year of release.
Saying that i’d probably get one myself if i won £250 on a scratchcard. Although i don’t do the lottery or scratchcards so the whole situation is moot.

You should get GTA IV, I’ve heard it’s so much better on the PS3 and it doesn’t suck the shit from a dead man’s arse at all. No siree.

That website is one of mine. I worked on The Office website during my short time with the Beeb before it was popular.
Back then, it was just some weird sitcom with that annoying guy off the 11 o’clock show.

Comics?
Well how about the fact that the Marvel Top Cow crossover isn’t as good as I was hoping. Seems a bit mish-mash to me. Doesn’t have the tight character driven storylines that makes Marvel no.1.
But on a similar note, Ultimate Fantastic Four is absolutely brilliant. Some may say fantastic…
Better than Ultimate X-Men but possibly not as good as Ultimate Spidey. But i could be a little bias there.

cor blimey, guv’nor. its been busy here today.
sounds like Gears 2 is good then. From what I’ve been reading, my copy might actually be delivered today. And rumours suggest that not only do I get a gold chainsaw gun thing, but theres 5 free maps too..
although i’m getting into fallout now, so dont really need any distractions…

Actually, you are quite correct, Jimsy.
Ultimate FF IS better than Ultimate X-men.
However, it’s not as good as The Ultimates which, in turn, is not as good as Ultimate Spider-man which, by the way, is my fave monthly read. I always save it till last, I do.
In fact, I read the latest issue just last night.
Did you?
No. for you were playing the Mirrors Edge demo, weren’t you.
Yes you were, you cheeky little scamp.
Did you enjoy it?
cos I did.

I fully concur. When i was in Florida i saw the first 2 issues of The Ultimates 3.
Unfortunately i don’t get any comics on a monthly basis preferring the feeling of a trade paperback. The downside is nothing ever gets read in the correct timeline, other than the chunk that comes in the trade book.
Consequently I have still never read anything of the following:
Peter marrying Mary Jane
Peter finding out that he’s the clone and Ben Reilly taking over full time
Mary Jane getting killed in a plane crash, then finding out she’s not actually dead.
I did enjoy the Mirrors Edge demo, i liked it a lot.

I think I’m the only person in the world who actually kinda liked Ben Reilly as Spidey.
Course, I was glad when Pete came back…but…kinda sad to.
I have the Marriage issue somewhere. Fact.
And the whole plane crash thing was a bunch of arse.
I, too, enjoy a good ole trade paperback but still say that you cannot beat the feeling of a proper “comic book”…

btw….How fun could a Mirrors Edge Online Race be?
If you answered “a lorra lorra fun” then go have a hand shandy

But trades look great on a bookshelf coz they’ve got a spine. And shiny covers/hard covers are lovely.

On that note you may want to read the following. I actually bought Maximum Carnage. I was a little disappointed.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Maximum Carnage either. Over-rated, I thought.

Apologies for “Sense of Humour failure” yesterday. My day did not go well and the fake me comments pushed me over the edge. Normal sanity is resumed today, but please give it a rest.
